Madonna makes chart history once again with her new smash single Popular with The Weeknd and Playboi Carti burning up the Billboard charts
The Queen of Pop is once again making history. Madonna's new collaborative single, Popular, with The Weeknd and Playboi Carti debuts at #43 in its first week on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. This means Madonna has now debuted songs on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart in five consecutive decades beginning in the 1980's and up through the current 2020's. The icon joins Cher as the only two women who have been able to achieve that feat, with Cher debuting singles from the 1950's through the 2000's.
Popular, which is on 13 different Billboard charts this week, also puts Madonna on six different Billboard charts than she has never been on. That in itself, is a pretty incredible feat, as the legend holds a number of Billboard chart records including the most #1 Billboard Dance Songs with 52 entries. Popular, from the HBO series The Idol, debuts on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart at #6 - her first entry on the chart since it began in 2012. Madonna finds herself at #14 on the Billboard R&B / Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, #11 on the Billboard R&B / Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, #4 on the Billboard R&B / Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart and #2 on the Billboard R&B Streaming Songs chart and #1 on the Billboard R&B Digital Song Sales chart.
Additionally, the dance inspired R&B single hits the Billboard Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs chart at #14. Her last entry there was the R&B flavored Bedtime Stories single Human Nature in 1995. Popular also debuts at #13 on the Billboard Digital Songs Sales chart, but Madonna is no stranger to that chart either, having dominated the chart countless times since it began in 2004.
And I definitely can't forget to mention that Madonna, The Weeknd and Playboi Carti debut at #1 on Pop's Tops Kyle McMahon Top 20 Chart that is ranked by my plays the prior week. The Queen of Pop also debuts at #4 with her other new release - the dirty dance anthem Vulgar with Sam Smith. I'm sure that one will be moving up the charts over the next few weeks as well.
With a sold out mega tour - The Celebration Tour - premiering this Summer, studio work with fellow pop God Max Martin, upcoming expanded re-issues celebrating four decades of domination and a new Madonna bop burning up the charts, all is right with the Pop world again.
