Free Veterans Event Returning to Lancaster County

LANCASTER, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2018) –  The Veterans’ Expo & Job Fair will return to Lancaster County Thursday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a new location: The Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.

Presented by OLP Events, the free, two-for-one event will include more than 90 exhibitors. Area veterans of all ages, active military and their families are urged to attend.

 Veterans’ Expo

The Veterans’ Expo will connect active and retired military members with the benefits and resources available to them through local businesses and organizations — exhibitors representing everything from VA benefits counselors and healthcare professionals to finance, home improvement, legal services and continuing-education opportunities.

Representatives from the Recorder of Deeds office will be on hand to help all honorably discharged Lancaster County veterans record their DD-214 papers and enroll in the free Thank a Vet veterans discount program. Veterans should bring their full-sized DD-214s to be enrolled.

The morning’s opening ceremony will feature the Presenting of Colors by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard, and a deserving veteran will receive a Quilt of Valor created by Stitches of West Brandywine.

The Pennsylvania Department of Military & Veterans Affairs will have a Veterans Outreach Van at the Expo, and students from Barber Styling Institute will be providing free haircuts.

 Job Fair

At the Job Fair, attendees can meet directly with potential employers offering a wide variety of employment opportunities.

Company representatives will be looking to fill positions in sales, labor, management, tech, medical services, transportation, clerical, manufacturing, engineering, construction, retail, financial services and more.

At the Job Fair’s Resource Center:

  • Shannon Degiglio, lender relations and economic development specialist with the U.S. Small Business Administration, will discuss SBA programs and resources for veteran-owned small businesses.
  • Pennsylvania CareerLink of Lancaster County will review resumes and discuss their programs and services for job seekers.
  • Humana will offer guidance on veterans’ Medicare options.
  • Justin Leader, vice president of business development with Benefit Design Specialists, will conduct mock interviews.

Sponsors include 50plus LIFE, Blue Ridge Communications, Disabled American Veterans, Fulton Financial Corporation, LCTV, Paul Smith’s College, Pennsylvania State Headquarters VFW, WFYL and WHTM abc27.
