How do you choose a good watermelon? If you buy a watermelon that has cracks inside, throw it out! It probably contains forchlorfenoron, a growth hormone that makes the fruit swell and split, to look like it was vine ripened, but it really isn't. If you decide to eat it anyway, it can do some serious damage to your health. Other signs include: Looks ripe but has no taste; If the flesh is pale and the seeds are white.
