Red Wine: Sip It? Nip It? Skip It? How Much is OK?

Dr. Alex Garton, a cardiologist with UPMC Pinnacle, shares the health benefits and risks for drinking wine and your heart health. There are new guidelines for blood pressure coming out this month, and the doc has a few words to say about that.

Anyway, Red Wine has antioxidants. That's good.

What are the guidelines?

  • Women - less than 2 drinks a day
  • Men - less than 3 drinks a day

A drink is:

  • 12 ounces of beer
  • 5 ounces of wine
  • 1-1/2 ounces of 80 proof liquor (That's a 3 finger pour of vodka or whiskey.)

I say, whatever you drink, also drink an equal amount of water. Stay hydrated!
