There is a way you can make a change and avoid paying a costly fee.

It seems like airlines are charging fees for everything these days. If you want to make a change to a trip on Delta, United, and American Airlines you’ll end up paying close to $200.

Despite this fact, there is one way you can make a change and avoid paying a costly fee. The 24-hour rule.

If you accidentally book a ticket for 11/12 and you meant to book it for 12/11 or there is another change that you need to make, you can make the correction within the first 24 hours of booking your ticket.

According to the Department of Transportation, you are entitled a full refund within 24 hours of purchase as long you booked your trip at least seven days ahead of the departure date.

Some airlines will grant a refund even if it is within 7 days but still within 24 hours.
