For years, Katy Van Nostrand would go into anaphylactic shock and not know why, but she was finally diagnosed with a very rare allergy. It turned out that the 34-year-old is allergic to exercise.
This means that Katy, who is a nurse in Colorado, can have a potentially fatal reaction from something as simple as a brisk dog walk or even from having sex.
Katy has to carry an Epipen since too much exertion could cause her to break out in hives and swell up to the point that her throat could close.
She's had to cut foods like grapes, oats, corn, rice, nuts and even black pepper out of her diet since they tend to cause her exercise to trigger her reactions, but Katy, who loves being active, isn't going to let her allergy keep her from doing things, which is good news for her husband.
