An Air Force captain who was at a Pentagon daycare on September 11th, 2001, is running 2,977 miles to honor every person who died in the terrorist attacks. Hanna Born was a toddler when the Pentagon was struck, and while everyone at the daycare escaped unharmed, she grew up being reminded of how fortunate her family had been.
Born’s “Run to Remember” dedicates one mile to each victim, and she says the person’s name aloud while running their mile. The flight instructor says her goal is to help keep their memories alive 25 years after the attacks.
Just days after 9/11, Born’s father brought her back to the Pentagon so she could see the volunteers helping with recovery efforts. That experience helped to give her a deeper understanding of both her family’s good fortune and what others had lost.
