DDG: After Contractor Scams Granny, Town Pitches In To Make Wrestling Ring

An Arizona grandmother who was scammed by a contractor while trying to build a mini wrestling ring for her grandsons got some help from the community after her story was shared on the local news. Lisa Boshears had hired a contractor to build a padded backyard wrestling ring for four-year-old Christan and two-year-old Austin, but the contractor allegedly took hundreds of dollars in materials and stopped responding.

After the story aired, a resident donated wrestling mats once used by her family, and contractor Cesar Ontiveros volunteered to complete the project for free. Ontiveros, owner of Water Fighters in Lake Pleasant, bought the rest of the materials and spent about 40 hours building the mini wrestling ring in Boshears’ backyard. The finished setup includes spring-loaded ropes, padding, vinyl covering, and a custom logo.

Ontiveros says he wanted to help after hearing about the contractor dispute in part to show that there are good people in the contracting industry. When the finished ring was revealed, Boshears’ grandsons tested it out with wrestling moves before ending with a hug. She says seeing her grandchildren’s reaction was one of the best feelings she had experienced.
