After disappearing during a snowstorm and spending nearly 24 hours lost in freezing conditions, a rescue dog in Wyoming was reunited with his owners. Rich Renner says his goldendoodle Charlie, who was recently rescued from California, ran off while exploring snow near the family’s property in Mountain Meadows after spotting deer tracks. Renner and his wife, Barb, searched through the storm alongside neighbors using four-wheelers, ATVs, and even a drone company with infrared cameras.
Charlie vanished Tuesday as heavy snow and temperatures in the 20s moved into the area, leaving the couple worried their pup wouldn’t survive the night. Rich says Charlie wasn’t used to Wyoming weather and had little body fat after arriving from California. A tracker on the dog provided only limited help, and the snow quickly covered his tracks as neighbors in their community joined the search effort.
The following day, newlyweds Jada and Collin Szymanski found Charlie while hiking in Curt Gowdy State Park during a snowy outing. She says the dog initially appeared nervous, but calmed down after she read his name off his collar and called out to him. Using the phone number on the collar, they contacted the Renners, who met them to bring Charlie home after spending all night outdoors in the snowstorm.
