A Meals on Wheels delivery in North Texas turned into a life-saving moment when 19-year-old volunteer Alekzander Dzivak helped a client during a medical emergency. While making his regular delivery, he arrived at the home of 72-year-old Lana, who lives alone, and found she was experiencing a severe diabetic episode and unable to move.
Dzivak immediately called 911 and stayed with her, keeping her talking until emergency responders arrived. “If it hadn’t been for him coming… I would be dead,” Lana says. The teen describes the situation as “one of the scariest times” of his life as he waited for help.
Lana is now recovering and her relationship with Dzivak has grown into a friendship following the incident. Meals on Wheels notes that volunteers often serve as a critical point of contact for seniors, with some routine visits revealing emergencies like this one.
