A Las Vegas bride-to-be has received widespread support after her mother’s wedding dress, which had been shipped to her apartment, was stolen from the building’s mailroom. The dress, originally worn by Crista Dettelis’s mother 40 years ago, was meant to be paired with a headpiece her grandmother wore 75 years ago. After Dettelis shared her story online, the post racked up millions of views, prompting an outpouring of help from individuals and businesses.
David’s Bridal provided her with a new wedding gown valued up to $35-hundred along with accessories at a Las Vegas-area location. A magazine also offered a $1-thousand cash gift, while small businesses volunteered to recreate her grandmother’s veil and a designer in France offered to remake her mother’s dress. Dettelis says the support helped turn a difficult situation into a positive experience.
The original dress has still not been recovered, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirms the theft is under active investigation. Despite the loss, with all the offers of help that have come in, Dettelis will be ready when the big day arrives.
