DDG: Teen Saves School Bus Driver With CPR During Medical Emergency

An Ohio high school student is being praised for saving the life of her school bus driver after the driver experienced a medical emergency. The incident happened last month while 17-year-old East Liverpool High student Presley Jones was on her way home from school. A coach on the bus asked if anyone knew CPR, and Jones stepped forward and began performing chest compressions while monitoring the driver’s pulse until paramedics arrived.

She says adrenaline helped her stay focused as she applied the CPR training she learned through her school’s health program. Her teacher, Nici Dozier, says Jones’ quick response and willingness to act played a key role in saving the driver’s life. She also reassured the driver once she regained consciousness and waited with her until emergency responders took over.

The East Liverpool school board recently recognized Jones and Dozier for their actions and the impact of the health training program. The bus driver is on medical leave following the incident, but is expected to make a full recovery. The teen says the experience has reinforced her interest in pursuing a career in nursing.
