Late last Friday night, Brooke Hayes received a sudden alert on her phone indicating that her husband Dustin had been in a serious crash. The message, including his location in rural Arizona, came from the communication device attached to his motorcycle helmet that’s designed to send an alert when it detects an accident.
When she wasn’t able to reach him, Brooke immediately drove toward the alert location while contacting police. She searched the area with a flashlight and found Dustin and his wrecked motorcycle off the road in a spot hidden from passing drivers. Officers arrived minutes later and said it was remarkable he was still alive after crashing more than half an hour earlier.
Dustin suffered multiple serious injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma, but Brooke says that doctors expect him to eventually wake up. Even though he’ll have a long road to recovery, she says she’s grateful the alert helped her find him before it was too late.
