A routine hospital visit in Iowa took an unexpected turn when Susan Sinnwell realized she’d accidentally thrown away two family heirloom rings. The rings, passed down from her grandfather, had been wrapped in a napkin and tossed out without her noticing.
Hospital imaging manager Craig Buskohl teamed up with the waste management staff to search for the precious rings. Dozens of trash bags were scanned with metal detectors and the ones that triggered alerts were examined using a mobile X-ray machine. The process took about 45 minutes.
The rings were eventually found and Sinnwell was reunited with them at the hospital. She later learned just how many staff members had helped in the effort and expressed deep gratitude for their teamwork and care.
