Daily Do Good: Boston Duck Boat Crew Rescues Dad, Son From River

On Monday morning, a Boston Duck Tour boat crew rescued a young boy and his father after they fell into the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The one-year-old boy slipped through a railing near the Royal Sonesta Hotel, prompting his father to jump in after him. A Duck Boat, which was conducting a routine rescue training drill nearby, was the first to arrive on the scene, quickly coming to their aid.

Photographer Dominic DeMasi, who was across the river, witnessed the incident and captured photos of the Duck Boat heading toward the father and son, who were clinging to a stone wall. The Duck Boat crew, including operator Captain Michael Rosario and narrator Captain Kevin O'Neill, immediately responded. Rosario maneuvered the boat while O'Neill used a life ring to pull the father and son to safety. The crew wrapped the crying and cold child in a blanket after the rescue.

Both the boy and his father were unharmed, and the father expressed his deep gratitude to their rescuers. Reflecting on the incident, Rosario, who has two daughters, said he thought about what it would be like if it were his child. After the rescue, Rosario and O'Neill continued with their busy day of tours.
