When a fire broke out between a pair of homes in High Ridge, Missouri, last week and rapidly spread to one of the houses, 15-year-old babysitter Savannah Strother acted quickly to save the two children in her care. The incident was caught on the family’s home security camera and shows Strother carrying one-year-old Alyiah and leading three-year-old Brysen out the home’s front door, amidst intense flames.
Taylor Dixon, the children's mother, calls Savannah a hero, saying the teen’s prompt response to the emergency prevented a tragedy, and Savannah's mom, Brittany Strother, is deeply proud and grateful that her daughter was so brave, acknowledging how crucial it was that she remained calm. For her part, Savannah says that she just did what anyone would have done, focusing on getting the children out safely.
Chief John Barton of the High Ridge Fire District praised the teen for her decisive and brave actions, which very likely saved the children’s lives. He commended the teen for her composure and decisive action in making the children’s safety her highest priority.
