Last month, a man arrived unconscious at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center with his dog, Bear Bear, and was admitted to the ICU, where he was cared for by nurse Dezorey Arocha. The man unfortunately passed away, leaving Arocha wondering what had happened to the man’s dog. Determined to find and adopt the pet, Arocha and another nurse contacted local animal rescues, finally locating Bear Bear at the SPCA of Texas after an 11-day search.
Bear Bear's story began when the SPCA of Texas rescued him from an animal hoarding case in September 2023. After being adopted, he returned to the shelter following his new owner's death just a few months later. Thanks to his microchip, the SPCA was able to identify him and take him back. Arocha contacted the SPCA after finding Bear Bear on their website and quickly arranged to meet and adopt him.
After his adoption, Arocha ended up renaming him Asher. The lucky pup is now living his best life with Arocha and her two other dogs, thriving in his new home. She hopes her story inspires others to adopt pets from shelters. And Chris Luna, CEO and President of the SPCA of Texas, stresses the importance of microchipping, which helped ensure that Bear Bear made it back to the SPCA, leading to his adoption by his new forever family.
