Last week, with temperatures well into the 90s, a hotel manager in Indianapolis discovered a car with a German shepherd named Abby, a cat, and another dog locked inside. Abby had honked the car’s horn, alerting the manager to their plight and prompting him to call the police.
Among the responding officers was Public Safety Officer S. Poe of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. After the incident, Officer Poe decided to adopt Abby, making sure she has a safe and loving home moving forward.
It was estimated that the animals had been in the hot car for around three hours, and although Abby and the cat were able to be saved, tragically the other dog didn’t survive. The owners of the vehicle were found at the hotel and say they left the animals in the car because the hotel wouldn’t allow pets. They’ve been charged in connection with the incident.
