A family’s camping trip in Fresno County, California, took a turn for the worse when their four-year-old boy disappeared from their campsite. Fortunately, rescuers found Christian Ramirez safe nearly 24 hours later, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
The family reported the boy missing from the Rancheria Campground in Huntington Lake on Thursday around 11 a.m. Nearly 70 rescuers from the Tulare County Search and Rescue Team, Air Support Team, Forest Service Rangers and officers from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife began searching for Christian nearby, with help from dogs and helicopters. They looked through the night and located him around 8 a.m. on Friday, just about a quarter of a mile from the campsite.
Christian was found under a tree, tired and hungry, but in good condition, and he was reunited with his grateful family, the sheriff’s office reports. They note that the area is known to have bears, big cats, snakes and other dangers that could have led to a tragic ending. “There’s a lot of things that could have gone really, really wrong with this one, and we got lucky, the family got lucky,” explains Fresno County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Brandon Pursell. “The boy is very, very fortunate to be with his family.”
