DDG: High School Class President Writes Thank You Notes To All 180 Grads

Last week, at the graduation ceremony for Apponequet Regional High School in Lakeville, Massachusetts, senior class president Mason Macuch wanted to honor each of his fellow graduates in a unique way. During his commencement speech, he announced that he’d written personal thank-you notes to each of the 180 graduates, which were taped under their chairs. It was his hope to acknowledge each of his classmates and express his gratitude for their shared experiences over the years.

Macuch spent around 10 hours writing the notes, drawing on personal memories and sharing a unique message for each student. He says that as class president, he knew most of the students, which helped him craft meaningful messages. His best friend, Conor Tripp, describes the gesture as emotionally moving and a special way to recognize the strong bond within their class.

The surprise was well-received, with many graduates and parents expressing their appreciation through personal thanks and social media comments. Macuch shares that even students he hadn't spoken to in years were grateful for the thoughtful notes. His act of kindness not only highlights his leadership but also demonstrates the importance of gratitude, a value his mother has instilled in him and that she hopes he’ll carry with him as he heads off to study biochemistry in college this fall.
