A group of students at Providence College in Rhode Island have raised money to help a security guard named James visit his family in Nigeria, who he hadn't seen in 11 years. The students set up a crowdfunding page describing the security guard's kind personality and the impact he’s had on their community, and in less than a day they’d raised $3-thousand!
James, described as "the kindest soul," was deeply touched by the gesture. The students presented him with the funds, allowing him to plan a trip to Nigeria to reunite with his family this June. The emotional moment was captured in a photo showing James overwhelmed with gratitude, which they shared on the crowdfunding page.
Moved by James' story, people have continued to donate and over $25-thousand has been raised for him so far. Providence College Dean of Students Steven Sears praised the security guard’s impact on the students and the community, noting James’ sincerity in wanting the students to succeed. The students have pledged to give all additional donations collected to him for future trips to his family in Nigeria.
