A Chicago city bus driver named Anastasios Adamopoulos and a brave passenger sprang into action when they spotted flames engulfing two homes during the early hours of Monday morning. Adamopoulos stopped his bus when he noticed the intense blaze and without hesitation, he and the passenger rushed to the scene, banging on doors and shouting “fire” to make sure everyone could make it out safely.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the fire that erupted around 2 a.m. at the homes in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. Approximately 14 people, including children, were successfully evacuated from the burning homes, thanks to the quick actions of Adamopoulos and the unnamed passenger.
While fire officials investigated the blaze, he provided comfort to the evacuated residents for about 45 minutes on his bus until firefighters had control of the situation. The humble bus driver downplayed his heroic actions, saying that he just did what he felt anyone else would do in that situation.
