Daily Do Good: Man Keeps His Word, Splits $230K Lottery Win With Brother

Tazewell County, Virginia, resident Tim Cornwell recently won $230-thousand in the Virginia Lottery's Cash 5 game. Cornwell purchased his lucky ticket for the December 18th drawing at a gas station in Cedar Bluff, using a set of numbers made up of birthdays and other important family dates.

Making good on a longstanding promise to his brother, Cornwell decided to share his lottery winnings. He and his brother, Steve, had an agreement that if either of them ever won the lottery, they would split the prize. True to his word, Cornwell shared the excitement and the prize money with his brother as soon as he could.

The Cash 5 game that Cornwell won has a starting jackpot of $100-thousand and can roll over to even larger amounts. The odds of hitting all five numbers and winning the jackpot are about one in 750-thousand. The Cornwell brothers were featured on the VALottery’s website holding up the giant $230-thousand check with both their names on it, just like they’d agreed.
