Daily Do Good: Boxes Of Pokémon Cards Nearly Trashed Raise $50K For Family

While clearing space for his wife's hospital bed during her battle with cancer, a grandfather in the U.K. found a forgotten stash of Pokémon cards. Realizing that the cards might be valuable, the man’s daughter kept him from throwing them out, which is a good thing since the cards have already brought in over $50-thousand and they’re expected to bring in even more.

Among the finds is an unopened Pokémon Fourth Print Base Set Booster Box, which the family plans to auction soon and is expected to fetch at least $20-thousand. The cards were purchased as a spare set in 1999 when the grandfather started collecting them with his granddaughter and are still in their original cellophane wrapper.

Once the family discovered how valuable the collection was, they decided to sell some of them off and split the money among the family members. In addition to the box currently on the auction block, they also have four other sealed Pokémon card boxes that they’re keeping to sell “in case of emergencies”.
