DDG: Officers Honored For Risking Life To Save Boy Being Electrocuted

Last week a pair of Michigan police officers were honored for their part in helping to save the life of an eight-year-old boy who was being electrocuted by a downed powerline. In bodycam video released online, you can see Warren Police Department Corporal Detective Daniel Rose pulling up to the scene in his police cruiser already concerned for the boy’s survival.

The child is lying in the middle of the road clinging to a live downed powerline and officers can’t tell if he’s alive or not. One of them realizes the boy is still alive, so Detective Rose risks his own life by carefully inching toward the child and dragging him safely away from the live wire.

When they realize that an ambulance is still a few minutes away, the officers load the boy into the back of a police vehicle and rush him to a nearby hospital. Detective Rose holds the child and comforts him the whole way. The boy suffered severe burns to his hands, but hospital staff say if it hadn’t been for the officer’s intervention, he would not have survived. Corporal Detective Rose and Officer David Chapman were honored with a Valor Award for their heroism.
