Last month, Masako Iso was picking up groceries at the Union Square Trader Joe’s in New York City, when she realized her 40-year-old wedding band was missing from her finger. "We thought it was gone,” she shares. Her husband Shoji Iso, assured her that “everything would be OK.” He had purchased the gold band for $250 from Tiffany & Co. in 1981, shortly after the couple moved to Manhattan from Tokyo, so the ring had a lot of sentimental value.
The couple notified the staff at the Trader Joe’s about the missing ring and its importance to them. So the store’s manager, Kathy Rodriguez, and employee Orlando Cintron painstakingly retraced the couple's steps using their shopping list to guide them.
After a 20-minute search, Cintron found the ring between stacks of baby back ribs and returned it to the grateful couple. The Isos claim the experience has reaffirmed their faith in the city they love, saying, “We still believe in New York. It’s a wonderful place.”
