On Wednesday morning, a father-to-be called 911 as his wife started going into premature labor at their Camden County, Missouri, home. Amy Hufferd, a communications officer with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and a mother of twins herself, was the one to receive the call.
Hufferd stayed calm and professional as she notified Mercy Ambulance Dispatch, before guiding the anxious parents through the process of delivering their twin babies at home. Emergency crews from Mid-County Fire Protection District and Camdenton Police Department were dispatched to the scene, arriving in time to care for the newborns and their mother after Hufferd had already helped the parents deliver their babies.
In recognition of her amazing work, Hufferd will be given a Dispatcher Headset Stork Lapel Pin to add to her uniform. A press release from the sheriff’s department commends Hufferd for keeping her cool and helping the couple safely bring their twins into the world.
