Because Cally Krisell‘s stepdad had a habit of playing the Arkansas lottery using familiar numbers like her birthday and Krissell’s own daughter's birthday, she always joked with him that he needed to give her any winning tickets. To Krisell, it was just a running joke, but when her stepfather recently won a $200-thousand Powerball jackpot, he made good on his playful promise.
On July 17th, Krisell’s stepdad matched the Powerball and four of the five white balls, winning $50-thousand, but since he’d opted for the PowerPlay feature for an extra $1, he quadrupled the jackpot. He then went straight to his stepdaughter’s home to tell her he had “good and bad news," Krisell recalls. The bad news was that she was going to have to start paying her own cell phone bill, but the good news was she’d now be able to afford it. He then handed her the winning ticket.
Krisell recently claimed her newfound fortune at the Arkansas Lottery Claim Center. She is planning on using the winnings to make some improvements to her home and going on a well-deserved family vacation. Presumably, she also plans on using some of the money to start paying her own phone bill.
