Red Cross continues to assist Berks County residents impacted by flooding
The Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross continues to assist Berks County residents who are displaced from their homes due to flooding. The Red Cross is operating an emergency shelter at Glenside Elementary School (500 Lackawanna St., Reading, PA 19601) for those in need. Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers are onsite to provide food, relief supplies and comfort to displaced residents.
Families from across the area who are impacted by flooding are being directed to this shelter for Red Cross assistance. This includes residents who were evacuated from the Jamestown Village Apartments (300 Lackawanna St., Reading, PA 19601) on Sunday night.
As of Monday morning, the Red Cross has served more than 50 people affected by flooding in Berks County. On Sunday night, 25 people stayed overnight in the Red Cross shelter at Glenside Elementary School. Red Cross shelters are open to everyone in need, and all disaster assistance is free.
The Red Cross is working closely with community partners and emergency responders to care for all those affected. Anyone in need of Red Cross assistance should call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
