DDG: High School Senior Class Prank Raises $1K For Boy Battling Cancer

Albion High School in Albion, New York, has a yearly tradition of seniors pulling a prank before finishing up their high school career. But this year’s class has turned the tradition into a fundraiser to help a local boy suffering with a brain tumor. On Monday morning, before anyone had arrived on campus, Albion High seniors blocked all the school’s entrances and started charging a $5 toll to park.

Senior Class President Nicholas Andrews says some people voluntarily paid even more than the $5. All of the money collected will be going to support Maddox Pearl, a local elementary schooler fighting a brain tumor. “He's in the hospital battling, so we thought if we raised some more money for him, it would help his fight," says Andrews.

The community already knows Maddox's struggle. "Team Maddox" stickers are a common sight around town. So it wasn’t just Albion high folks who got in on the giving. "We had one older gentleman that gave us $20 just to drive around the front circle of our school,” Andrews recalls. After losing so much of their high school years to the pandemic, the seniors really wanted to leave their mark. "I'm glad we're not the class of COVID,” says Andrews. “We're the class that brought change to the community and I think we'll be remembered for this, it's nice."
