When 92-year-old Mary Silvestri was a much younger woman, she dreamed of being a Rockette. She even intended to audition for the dance company once upon a time, but wasn’t able to make the trip into the city from her home in Connecticut. "I couldn't get to New York alone and no one could take me," she explains.
Silvestri’s family shared her story with the Rockettes, who decided to fulfill her dream and invited her to Radio City Music Hall for their auditions. The nonagenarian received a warm welcome from the dance company and even learned the Rockettes' "iconic" bevel pose. She also performed some kicks while wearing a bib with the number "813" on it.
Rockette Amarisa LeBar expressed her joy at being part of the special moment, saying it reminds her of how "lucky and grateful" she is to be a Rockette. LeBar says that the experience meant as much to them as it did to Silvestri. The Rockette also says Silvestri helped remind her of the impact they have on people worldwide and the importance of following your dreams.
