Twin sisters are named valedictorian and salutatorian of their New York high school. West Hempstead High on Long Island announced last week that twins Gloria and Victoria Guerrier had earned the top two spots in their school’s graduating class, securing the valedictorian and salutatorian positions. Gloria and Victoria, who have never received less than a 100% in any class in their high school career, earned a GPA of 105.3 and 104.9 respectively.
But if you thought these brainiacs were only about the books, you’d be wrong. In addition to their challenging course load, the fraternal twin sisters also excelled in multiple sports, took part in various extracurricular activities and were leaders in their community. And the sisters claim the healthy competition between them — in and out of the classroom — is part of what’s led to their success. "It's like the saying, 'How iron sharpens iron,'” Victoria says. “We really use each other to improve upon ourselves."
The twins will be attending Yale University in the fall and both want to major in artificial intelligence, but they differ on how they plan to use the skills they’ll learn. But the one thing they agree on about their future, after 17 years of being roommates, they want to live separately. "I want to stay as far away from her as possible,” Gloria says. ”We shared the same room forever so I think it's best to venture out and meet a new circle of friends."
