An Oregon man finds a laptop while picking up cans and then returns it to its rightful owner. Rhonda Nienburg, owner of Hendrix and McGuire Optical in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood, was woken up at 4am by her alarm company. Someone had broken into her shop and stolen several items including the shop’s laptop, which is crucial to their operation.
Nienburg was beside herself and not sure what she was going to do without the computer, but as a local news crew was in the store to interview her about the break-in, she got a surprise visit. Tony Dixon was out collecting cans with a friend when they spotted a computer on the ground. “I was walking by, me and my buddy, and he’s like ‘Hey look, a laptop dude. I guarantee that thing’s expensive,’” Dixon recalls.
But Dixon didn’t even consider cashing in on the find. Instead, the good Samaritan went to social media and found out who the laptop belonged to. “I left a comment on their feed… and said ‘Hey, I’m bringing this back to you,’” he says. A few minutes later, the young man was returning the laptop to its grateful owner. “This man is my savior,” says Nienburg. “There’s good people out there and hallelujah!”
