An Arizona teen was saved from an apparent suicide attempt after an online friend in a foreign country notified authorities. A 15-year-old boy in Queen Creek, Arizona, was playing a multi-player game online and told one of his online gaming friends that he was considering suicide.
The other player, who was reportedly in either Europe or Russia, then notified federal authorities. “Whoever answered that call in D.C. took initiative to reach out to our non-emergency number,” explains Sonu Wasu from Queen Creek’s dispatch center. “So our officer was dispatched to the house to do a welfare check to see what was going on and verify this.”
Queen Creek police officer Simon Lopez went to the home and spoke to the teen’s parents, who were unaware of the situation. When they went to check on the young man, they found him unresponsive. Lopez was able to immediately give him a dose of Narcan, a nasal spray that can reverse opioid overdoses, and then he was then transported to the hospital.
