A Chicago man who saved the life of a man who fell onto the tracks is being hailed a hero and is given a car as a reward. On Sunday afternoon, a pair of men got into a fight at a Chicago train station and they both fell onto the tracks, making contact with the electrified third rail. One of the men jumped back on the platform and ran away, but the other man lay there on the tracks unconscious.
At that moment, 20-year-old Anthony Perry stepped off a nearby train and noticed the unconscious man. Without hesitation, he jumped down onto the tracks and moved the man off the third rail. Perry then administered CPR on the victim, saving his life. A witness caught the whole incident on video. "It was definitely surreal," the witness said. "[Perry] could have lost his life, too." But Perry only suffered minor injuries when he accidentally made contact with the third rail during the rescue.
And on Wednesday of this week, Perry was recognized for his brave act and rewarded with a new car. Local businessman and philanthropist Early Walker gave the young hero a 2008 Audi A6 and a gas card to help him make what used to be a 90-minute commute to work. For his part, Perry says he’s not a hero, but just someone who’s committed to doing the right thing.
