DDG: Strangers Donate $400K To Buy Family Home For Four Orphaned Brothers

After losing both their parents in the span of a few months, kind strangers from around the world donate enough money to four young brothers in Ireland for them to buy the home they’ve grown up in. The Clifford brothers have had a rough year. Their mother, Elaine Clifford, passed away in August of 2021 from cancer and then just five months later, they lost their father, Padraig Clifford, to cancer, too.

The boys’ aunt, Mary Hayes, set up a GoFundMe to help Patrick, 21, Jack, 14, Andrew, eight, and Conor, five, raise enough money to buy the rental house where they’d shared many memories with their parents. They hoped their 250-thousand Euro (US $268-thousand) goal would be enough to “allow the Clifford boys to purchase their family home and secure their future.”

In a little over a month, donors from around the world helped the Clifford boys to blow way past their goal and raised over 385-thousand Euros (US $413-thousand). After the goal was reached, an update to the GoFundMe page thanked the donors on behalf of the brothers. "The last few months have been extremely difficult for the Clifford boys and they could not have coped without the huge support of their extended family, friends and neighbors,” the message read. "They want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their comfort, support, kindness and generosity.”
