Daily Do Good: Teen On Way To Prom Thanks Firefighters Who Saved Her Life

Teen who was saved by Austin firefighters the night she was born returns to meet her heroes on her senior prom night. In 2003, firefighters from the Austin Fire Department’s Engine 2 company responded to an emergency at a home birth. The baby was born in cardiac arrest and had it not been for the firefighters’ efforts, she would have died.

Now eighteen years later, that baby is all grown up. The infant who was saved by the Austin firefighters is a senior in high school and she stopped by the firehouse last week on her way to prom. Austin Fire Department tweeted a picture of the teen in her prom dress in front of engine #2. “Meet Lilly Dashner. Were it not for 4 members from Engine 2 in 2003, this young woman might not be here,” the tweet reads “But Saturday, we got to meet this ‘happy ending’ on her way to prom as she stopped by to see ‘her fire truck number 2.’”

Firefighters say it was a privilege to meet one of their “greatest success stories,” and thanked Lilly for stopping by the station. They wished the teen luck on her next adventure and said they’d be cheering for her.
