Firefighters rescue a woman, man, and a dog from a fast moving Los Angeles river. On Monday afternoon, a woman and her dog were spotted, trapped in a rain-swollen river near Sherman Oaks, in northwest Los Angeles. A late-season rain storm brought heavy showers to the area, making the river especially treacherous.
A helicopter crew was able to rescue the woman within a few minutes, but the dog slipped through and continued downriver for more than an hour. A good Samaritan jumped into the river and grabbed hold of the dog, but as rescuers approached them, the man lost his grip on the dog and needed to be rescued himself.
Nearly two hours after the woman and the dog were first spotted, rescuers were finally able to fish the pup out of the water. The dog was checked by a veterinarian and released to its family. The man needed to be treated for a bite wound and the dog's owner was checked out by doctors, but didn’t need to be hospitalized.
