A Texas police officer saves a couple’s wedding by tracking down their stolen wedding rings and returning them just hours before the ceremony. Last Friday, Emery Scown and Samuel Bundy were shopping to buy some last-minute items for their Sunday wedding in Krum, Texas. While they were checking out at the home goods store, a woman switched shopping carts with them and made off with Emery’s purse. Inside the purse were the couple's wedding rings and thousands of dollars in cash.
Lewiston Police Officer Charles Bonar responded to the theft and after hearing the story was determined to do what was necessary to make sure the couple got their wedding rings back. “It’s a huge moment in someone’s life, and to lose something like that is a big deal,” says Bonar. So the officer scrubbed through hours of video from the store. He reviewed footage of vehicles that matched the description of the suspect’s car and was able to pinpoint a license plate that he believed belonged to the woman. Bonar confronted the suspect and was able to get the couple’s rings back.
On Saturday night at the couple’s rehearsal dinner, Bonar showed up and returned their rings to the cheers of family and friends. Emery is grateful for the kind officer’s hard work. “The officer was so wonderful,” she says. But Bonar downplays his role saying “I was given an opportunity and was just doing my job.” And the next day, the wedding happened as planned and the couple are off on their Hawaiian honeymoon.
The suspects aren’t facing any charges because the bride was only concerned with getting the rings back.
