An 11-year-old boy is being called a hero for rescuing his four siblings from the fire that destroyed their Tennessee home. Brody Sims says he knew exactly what to do in that emergency thanks to lessons their parents taught them. “My mom and dad told us, if there was a fire, to grab everyone and run out of the house and call 911,” he says.
So when the blaze broke out in the kitchen of their Clarksville home, Brody bravely made sure all four of his younger siblings got out quickly and safely. While one sister called 911, he rushed past the flames to reach his sleeping two-year-old brother in the back of the house. “All you could see was just smoke coming out,” he recalls of the fire.
Brody’s mom, Kimberly Sims, wasn’t home at the time of the fire, but she’s incredibly grateful her children have been trained in what to do during an emergency. While the family of seven lost nearly everything in the fire, she says she’s “unbelievably proud” of her son’s actions. Still, Brody doesn’t see himself as a hero, modestly saying, “I did what any big brother would do.”
- A GoFundMe has been set up to help replace clothing, toys and to bring some cheer back to their holiday season.
