For the first time in 46 years, there will not be a series lead-out of the Super Bowl. Instead, NBC is trying something new and will go back to Winter Olympics coverage. With Super Bowl taking place right in the middle of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and NBC hosting both at the same time (for the first time in Super Bowl history), it just made sense to NBC strategists. Frances Berwick, chairman, entertainment networks, NBC Universal Television and Streaming explains, “We have the benefit and the luxury of being right in the middle of the Olympics and we have a commitment to air live Olympics. Given the time difference, it will be full on prime games for us as we come out of the Super Bowl.”
