Just one day after undergoing major surgery to remove a brain tumor, a Pennsylvania elementary teacher got on Facebook Live to read a bedtime story to her students. Mrs. K.D. Meucci, a fourth grade teacher at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Bethel Park, found out last week that she had a brain tumor. Even though the tumor was likely benign, surgery was going to be necessary.
Meucci had her surgery on Wednesday and everything went as expected. Just one day later, from her hospital bed, she went online to read a bedtime story to her students like she’s been doing for years. She read the book “Mr. Walker Steps Out” by Lisa Graff, and let them know that she’s okay and will be back at school soon.
“You are my friends. You are an important part of our school community. You are an important part of our world. You are loved,” she tells her students in the closed FB group. “I wanted to see you, to see that I’m okay. I look a little funky, but I wanted you to see and know that I’m okay.”
