Daily Do Good: Neighbor Rescues Man In Wheelchair From House Fire

A wheelchair bound Tennessee man is rescued from his burning house by his neighbor. Around midnight on Tuesday night, Charles Harris woke up in his Clarksville, Tennessee, home surrounded by flames and heavy smoke. Harris tried to escape, but the wheelchair bound 60-year-old got his wheelchair stuck in the doorway.

At that same time, Anthony Hinderliter, who lives next door to Harris, was sitting in his car playing his guitar and saw the smoke. Then he heard his neigbor cry out for help. “I just... I didn’t think I just ran. It’s really hard to explain,” recalls Hinderliter. “Either he was getting out of there or neither of us were getting out of there.”

Risking his own life, Hinderliter was able to get his neighbor out of the burning house unharmed. And even though Harris lost everything he owned in the fire, he’s thankful to be alive and grateful for his neighbor’s selfless act. “It’s not as bad as it seems because right now it seems pretty bad, but it’s going to be okay,” Harris says. “Every morning when I wake up, I thank God for another day.”
