The city of Paris has announced an ‘unprecedented’ program to use flying passenger drones as taxis during the 2024 Summer Olympics. With around 30 manufacturers throughout Europe already called on to conduct test flights and others expected to join the project, the plan is to use the drones to shuttle fans from one Olympic arena to another.
Officials say the plans will help them see how well it works and confirm their plans to install ‘vertiports’ in the Ile-de-France region. Alexandra Dublanche, vice president of the Ile-de-France Region, called the air shuttle program “a must” in a city of 2.2 million people within 41 square miles.
