A hiker who was missing for a week has been rescued in Washington state. Jerren Fisher set out for a multi-day solo adventure in Olympic National Park and when he didn’t return, a family member reported him missing.
Search and rescue teams began looking for the 26-year-old on Thursday, hiking through the wilderness to find him.They knew Fisher’s planned itinerary, so they knew where to look, but cold, rainy, and windy weather delayed them, as did the rugged terrain. Park rangers on foot made voice contact with him on Sunday, but the steepness of the ravine he was in kept them from reaching him.
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was brought in to help and Fisher used a flashlight to guide the crew to him. It was a complex rescue and another helicopter was brought in to help and he was hoisted to safety. He was flown to the hospital for medical treatment and according to a tweet from the Coast Guard, he just had some cuts and scrapes and is in “good spirits.”
