Scientists Successfully Potty Train Cows to Reduce Emissions

Researchers in Germany have accomplished something that most people have never thought of; they’ve potty-trained cows. The team has developed a special toilet that cows can walk into called the MooLoo, and impressively they’ve trained 11 out of 16 calves to use it over the course of a few weeks.

Why would they want to potty train cows? The MooLoo is designed to capture the urine and treat it; the team says treating the urine can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cows. The lead researcher, while announcing the results of the study, said “In a few years all cows will go to a toilet.” The study was published in the journal Current Biology.
