A pair of climbers in Utah were exploring new routes in a waterfront area of Little Cottonwood Canyon when one of them was injured. They were in a mountainous area of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest in a spot with a name that might discourage some folks from checking it out - it’s known as “Certain Death.”
Rescue crews were called in Sunday afternoon after a large rock “the size of a refrigerator” rolled on top of one of them, according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team. Luckily, the other climber was able to pull the rock off.
Initially, two ground teams were sent to rescue the climbers, but officials say because of the difficult terrain and the nature of the climber’s injuries, a helicopter was called in to airlift him off the mountain.
