Daily Do Good: After Farmer’s Heart Attack, Community Helps Harvest Crops

A farmer in North Dakota had a heart attack and couldn’t finish harvesting his crops, but his friends and neighbors stepped in to help. Lane Unhjem went into cardiac arrest after his combine harvester caught on fire at his farm near Crosby, leaving his durum wheat and canola crops in the fields.

But when his community heard about what happened, they put aside their own crop-picking and came together to help their fellow farmer. Dozens of people arrived at his farm with their own equipment and got to work. Within seven hours, the group was able to harvest more than 1-thousand acres of crops.

“The Unhjems have a beautiful crop that will be safe in the bins today,” Don Anderson, one of the neighbors who helped, explains in aFacebook post,“and more importantly they have the comfort of knowing that they have a community of friends that are helping, praying and doing whatever they can to help them get through this tough time.”
