Daily Do Good: Good Samaritans Save Teen From Drowning After Having Seizure

A day at the beach nearly turned tragic for a family in North Carolina. Jackson Boswell was swimming with his siblings and stepdad at Oak Island when he got out of the water to put his swim shirt on. The 17-year-old has epilepsy and was making his way back into the waves when he suffered a grand mal seizure.

It all happened so quickly, his mom, Catherine Wadford, was on the beach and didn’t realize what was going on. Jackson was pulled from the water by strangers nearby and luckily, off-duty nurse Holly Quinn and her mom, also a nurse, jumped into action to help the teen. They started chest compressions, but Quinn wasn’t sure of his chances, she explains, “He was not breathing, he didn’t have a pulse.”

But after a few minutes, they got a sign of life. Jackson started expelling water and got his pulse back, his mom says. Emergency crews arrived and rushed him to the hospital, where he has been recovering. “Thank you is not a big enough word for saving our son,” the grateful mom says of the good Samaritans at the beach.
