The list of people fired for racial profiling is getting a new name.
This time it’s a now former employee of Hampton Inn hotel in Williamston, North Carolina .Anita Williams-Wright and her children were in the pool area of the hotel when a white employee, with two police officers in tow, demands proof she’s staying at the hotel.
Williams-Wright refuses to give her name, but produced her room key. The officers ran her license plates to get her identification. The distraught mom says the hotel employee never walked over to a white couple who were also in the pool area, but beelined for her. And when asked why the employee didn’t ask the couple for proof they were staying at the hotel, she apparently said “Oh, because it’s always people like you using the pool unauthorized.”
In response to the incident, the employee was fired and Hilton says they "apologized directly to the guest and her family for their experience, and will work with them and the hotel to make this right." The company also released a statement saying they have zero tolerance for this treatment of anyone.
The police department involved has not commented.
